There’s something timeless about a sailboat with its sails stretched wide, catching every ounce of wind. This one takes that familiar image and reimagines it in stainless steel, with every sail shifting through the full heat-patina spectrum — blue to purple to gold, finishing in the silver shine of bare steel. Each sail frozen mid-billow.
For the rigging, I didn’t want to fake it. I spun stainless wire in my drill until it twisted into rope, giving each line the same weight and texture you’d expect on a real boat. The hull carries pencil-ground details — windows, seams, all the marks that suggest long miles at sea — while below, layered steel waves pitch and roll around it. I pushed blues into the surface of the water, then torched the wave crests until they bubbled and frothed like sea foam.
This was one of those projects where the process felt like storytelling. Every sail, every line, every wave is a decision about how to make steel feel like wind and water. The result is a boat forever caught in motion — a wall-hanging piece that feels as restless as the ocean itself.
This sculpture is wall hanging and safe to be kept outside.
