I have always been drawn to butterflies. They are ornate, intricate, detailed and delicate bright little creatures that flit in and out of my life offering moments of awe.

With this butterfly I was focused on the detailed veins that run through the wings and excited to create more saturated colorful wings. I couldn’t achieve the bright yellow that these butterflies have in real life but I am happy with how the coppery gold turned out. And it was fun to try and make large sheets of metal appear weightless.

This handmade metal butterfly sculpture is wall hanging, made entirely of stainless steel, colored using only heat patinas and is completely safe to be kept outdoors.
