Butterflies were one of the first things I started creating in my studio and I have always been drawn to large super detailed metal butterfly sculptures with tons of details created from burning holes and grinding intricate coloring patterns. But since the beginning I had galleries asking for smaller, more simple, less expensive butterflies.

So finally I decided to take some time and design some smaller more affordable options that still satisfied me in the sense that they were detailed and beautiful. I don't like sending stuff out unless it feels complete and well made to me. I ended up with 7 different wing designs based on real butterflies but instead of grinding intricate patterns and welding wing veins and burning hole designs, I decided to keep the coloring more simple on these with only one coloring pass with my torches. So the coloring was not related to the wing design of the actual butterfly but it was a fun option for folks and I enjoyed coming up with variations on coloring. So everyone wins! These small metal butterfly sculptures are wall hanging, made entirely of stainless steel, colored using only heat patinas, and are all safe to be kept outdoors!
