Custom Metal Sculpture
Commissions are one of my favorite parts of this work
There is something special about creating a piece with a specific person in mind. Whether it's a gift for someone you love, a memorial for something meaningful, or just a creature that has always captivated you, I love the process of bringing those ideas to life in stainless steel.
I have created custom metal sculptures for collectors, galleries, businesses, weddings, and as surprise gifts. Every commission starts with a conversation, and those are some of my favorite conversations to have.
How It Works
The process is straightforward. You reach out with your idea, and I respond with some clarifying questions. It helps to know a few things upfront:
- Size:Roughly how large you're imagining the piece
- Mounting: Wall hanging or free standing
- Placement: Indoor or outdoor (stainless steel is weather-resistant, but some color patinas are indoor-only)
- Budget: A range helps me design to the right level of complexity
- Timeline: If you need the piece by a specific date
Once I have a sense of what you're looking for, I'll give you a rough estimate. If that works for you, we get into the details. I can provide AI renderings to give you a rough idea of what the finished piece might look like, and I'm open to sketching if you want something more traditional.
When we're ready to go, I ask for a 50% deposit upfront. The remaining 50% plus shipping is due upon completion, before delivery. If you need installation, that can be arranged for a separate fee.
Timeline
Every sculpture is different. Small items like earrings or ornaments can be done in under an hour. Most of my sculptures take a few days to a week. Complex pieces like my dragon (over 1,500 individual scales) or lion took 200+ hours.
Timeline also depends on whether you want something I have made before (meaning I already have a template) or something completely new. And on how much back and forth you want on the design. I usually have a bit of a waitlist, so it may be a few months before I can start. But if you have a specific deadline, I can usually make it work for non-complex pieces.
Pricing
Custom metal sculptures start around $100 for smaller pieces. Most of my work falls between $500 and $4,000 depending on size and detail level. Larger, more complex pieces can go higher. I mention this because I want people to know that original handmade metal art can be more affordable than they might expect. If you have a budget in mind, share it. I can often design to meet it.
