Stainless steel is stubborn stuff. It won't rust. It won't corrode. Rain, sun, snow, salt air off the ocean, none of it really bothers the metal. I have pieces that have been hanging outside for years now and honestly they look the same as the day I pulled the torch away. That toughness is one of my favorite things about working with steel. Hang it on a fence, plant it in a garden bed, stick it on a wall that catches every afternoon storm. It just keeps doing its thing.
Colored with fire, not paint
Here's the part people don't expect. I color all of these with heat. Just torches. No paint, no dye, no clear coat over the top. The blues and purples and golds come from how hot I take the flame across the surface of the steel. So the color isn't sitting on top of the metal, it is the metal. It can't chip. It can't peel. A hard rain is never going to wash it off. After all these years that still feels a little like magic to me, watching a color bloom out of plain silver steel.
One honest note about my indoor-only pieces. A few of my sculptures use iridescent patinas that throw these wild greens and magentas. Gorgeous colors. But they can drift toward tan and brown if they sit in direct sun too long, so I mark those indoor-only and I have kept them out of this collection. Everything here uses the stable end of the heat spectrum. It will hold its color for good.
Metal garden sculptures, patio art, and coastal pieces
These were made to be lived with outside. A metal garden sculpture tucked in among the plants. A piece of outdoor metal wall art on a covered patio. Something big and bright enough to hold its own against a wide coastal sky and the salt that rides in on the wind. Steel shrugs all of it off. So you get to put the art where you actually spend your time, not just where it happens to be safe.
