The first metal sculpture I ever made was a lobster. They of course lend themselves well to metal with their beautiful repetitive, layered exoskeleton. I loved the flowering effect that the tail and the leg cuffs on either side of the body have.

I was particularly pleased with the facial structure with all the antenna and their housings as well as the silver detail within the large claw. While the solid color of my blue lobster shows off the natural layering better, this striped coloring technique brought stunning iridescent qualities that capture light in beautiful ways. I worked through the heat patina spectrum, laying down blue first, grinding back, then adding purple and gold stripes to create that shimmering effect. I found it worked well juxtaposed against the sturdy articulated form of the lobster.
Check out my other lobster sculptures: Blue Lobster, Red Lobster, Pepsi Lobster.
This metal striped lobster sculpture is wall hanging, made entirely of stainless steel, colored using only heat patinas, and must be kept indoors!
